A Thoughtfully Designed Hunting Approach

Bergzicht is home to 38 species of huntable game, including 7 colour variants, making it a premier destination for plains game hunting. From iconic species like oryx and kudu to blue wildebeest and hartebeest, the diversity of wildlife is astounding. We advise all hunters to communicate their full wish list of target species with their professional hunter (PH) on day one, as the veld is often full of unexpected opportunities. You may be stalking an oryx when a magnificent blue wildebeest presents itself—it’s all part of the unexpected thrill!

Our professional hunters prioritize ethical hunting, predominantly employing the “walk-and-stalk” method. Hunting takes place from shooting sticks, enhancing precision while maintaining the fairness of the chase. Preliminary sighting begins from a 4x4 vehicle, transitioning to a closer approach on foot as the hunt intensifies. This method ensures that every hunt is conducted with respect for the wildlife and the surrounding environment.

For those traveling without firearms, Bergzicht offers a hassle-free solution: a selection of rifles is available for rent, eliminating the challenges of transporting guns internationally. Recommended calibers for hunting range from .270 to .300, ensuring you’re perfectly equipped for a successful hunt.

The Rhythm of The Hunting Day

Each day begins with the warm embrace of a hearty breakfast buffet, fueling your adventure into the veld. Depending on the season and sunrise, your day kicks off early to make the most of the cooler hours when animals are most active. We hunt until late morning, around 11:00 or 12:00, before retreating to the lodge for a rejuvenating lunch break.

During the warmer summer months, this midday pause offers an opportunity to recharge with a refreshing swim, indulge in a good book, or take a restful nap. For those hunts where progress demands continuity, lunch may be served in the heart of the veld to avoid interrupting the safari's momentum.

As the afternoon shadows grow long, you’ll head out again around 15:00 or 15:30 to continue your quest, hunting until the golden light of sunset signals the day's end.

At Bergzicht, our lodge accommodations are seamlessly integrated into the hunting veld, eliminating the need for long drives and ensuring every moment of your stay is dedicated to your passion. This thoughtful design not only maximizes your time but enhances your immersion in the captivating Namibian environment.
